Not sure if this the right subreddit for this, sorry if it isn't.
I'm curious if there is a distinction made officially between locations that were abandoned as opposed to evacuated, I.E Hashima Island vs Pripyat. Is there a name besides ghost town for Pripyat?
I was told by my friend just now that Pripyat is considered a dead city, and Hashima a ghost town. Is he chatting shit or is this an actual distinction that is made?
I did some searches, but I couldn't find anything to support the notion that it's an actual distinction other than the population difference between "town" and "city." Even Ordos, the largely empty city in Inner Mongolia, is often referred to as a "ghost town."
