I know this is a weird question but I started thinking, how can a word be held as offensive? What made it offensive and where did it come from? I know the question is a bit inappropriate but im still curious. Are these words just passed down and given their meaning?
I have a longer post that goes into details about the history of pretty much all common swear English-language swear words here.
hiya, this is a question for those who study etymology, "the study of the history of words, their origins, and how their form and meaning have changed over time." There are some historians of linguistics here, but while you're waiting, a good place to start is any good dictionary or an "etymology dictionary" such as The Online Etymology Dictionary: check out their entry here.
p.s. incidentally, the sub /r/etymology has had a few posts on "fuck" if you check over there.
