I'm doing a paper on the god Adad and his iconography and I have searched online for some info, but so far I have only come across information about the stories concerning him and other Mesopotamian gods, not anything regarding actual archaeological findings relating to him. If anyone could direct me to such resources, I'd be more than grateful. Thanks In advance.
A good book to look at is "The Storm God in the Ancient Near East" by Alberto Green (2003) It does not focus only on Adad. It also looks at the Storm Gods in the Sumerian, Hurrian, Hittite and Babylonian pantheons.
Adad is also known as Hadad the Thunderer and was worshiped mainly by the Western Semites (Arameans and Phoenicians) but also by the Mesopotamians. He is usually depicted standing on a bull, holding a thunderbolt, wearing a horned helmet, and sometimes has a solar disk above his head. These are all very common motifs in the western semitic aramean religion which borrowed religious element heavily from the Hittites and Hurrian-Mitannians who had occupied Syria before the arrival of the Arameans in the Iron Age. He was sometimes called "Baal Hadad" as Baal simply meant Lord. That's what I know from the top of my head.
