As of the 2001 census, the ethnic breakdown of the population of Newfoundland and Labrador was; 39.4% English, 19.7% Irish (but no breakdown within "Irish" between Protestants and Catholics), 6% Scottish, 5.5% French, 3.2% First Nations.

The religious breakdown was 57.5% Protestant, 35.8% Roman Catholic, and 6.8% No religious affiliation or other.

Obviously, the Orange Order was, and still is, popular enough in Newfoundland and Labrador to make and keep Orangemen's Day, as a celebration of the victory of William of Orange and the Protestants over James II and the Catholics at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, an official Provincial holiday.
