The founding fathers had a wide range of opinions about most topics. Some could be called deists, others could not.

There was an AMA on this two weeks ago with Daniel Dreisbach and Mark Hall, authors of Faith and the Founders of the American Republic. They conclude that even those Founders most influenced by rationalism believed religion indispensable to republican government.
