John Gill's Thunder on the Danube

by bingbongbizzle

I'm interested in reading these books. I was wondering if anyone has read them and could give me their thoughts, is it good? I want to read then purely out of interest, are they heavily academic or are they easy to read? Any info or reviews would be great, thanks

The Thunder on the Danube series is an excellent thick description of the 1809 campaign. Gill is a retired US Army colonel and has previously published works on the Rheinbund states and his trilogy is the culmination of this research. The trilogy's prose is accessible, but a bit dry at places and Gill focuses mostly on the military aspect of 1809 campaign and less on its political origins.
