Hitler committed suicide on the 30th of April 1945 at the bunker of the Reichskanzlei in Berlin. His body was burnt with petrol. Found by Red Army soldiers on the 4th may, it was identified by dental records or at least his dental assistant drawing Hitler's teeth from memory. All the survivors of the Bunker, radio operator, body guards, secretary, food tester say he committed suicide. On the evening of the 30th April even German radio announced Hitler was dead and announcing Dönitz and Goebbels as taking over.

The doubt occurs because of the Russian cover-up. They denied finding Hitler's body, supposedly even at the Potsdam conference Truman asked Stalin directly if Hitler was dead and he said no. But with the end of the cold war more details have come out. Hitler's (and Eva Braun's) bodies were buried at KGB compound in Magdeburg, from some accounts (NVA soldiers) claimed the bodies were moved about to different military bases, until the 80s when they were exhumed, autopsied, cremated properly and the ashes scattered into a tributary of the river Elbe.

In the 90s western researchers were allowed access to the KGB archives were for a long time it had been claimed that they had Hitler's skull. It wasn't his skull but they had the 3 intact teeth with bridgework that had been used to identify the body and the western researches accepted it as confirmation of Hitlers death.

Amusingly one of the things that led to conspiracies of Hitler's survival in the USA, was a con man who wrote letters to neo-nazis claiming he was Hitler and to send money that he needed to finance his come back.
