What were ".matrix" printers, how were they awesome in their day, and why aren't they still being made?

by AgNuhssi

When was the last .matrix printer made, and how useful was it compared to the early and mid ones?

And could there ever be, or has there ever been, a .matrix 3D printer? Would it be possible, even if as comical as a rotary mobile phone?

Maybe not the response you were expecting but this isn't really an appropriate forum for this question. Dot matrix printers were widely available 20 years ago. In fact, they're still being made in limited numbers today. With respect to 3D printers, your question shows that you're not too well versed in what the technology really is. I'd suggest reading up on it so you can ask more informed questions.

And as a telephone historian there's nothing comical about rotary phones! :-)
