Star Wars doesn't have much of a Soviet history. Although there was a core group of academics allowed to screen Western movies and even visit the U.S. for the purposes of study in the 1970s, the first (legal, at least) screening of a SW movie wasn't until Empire Strikes Back at a film festival in 1988.

There's a Soviet-era "review" of Episode IV floating around the Internet (and every so often, Reddit) with accompanying English translation. It's clearly propaganda and the writer hasn't seen the film, but it's a fascinating read.

Bits and pieces from the classic trilogy were shown on Soviet TV in 1989, and there are some surviving promotional posters from a 1990 screening of the whole trilogy.

But overall, you really can't talk about a "popular" perception of the SW saga in the USSR.
