Been reading Darkness at Noon by Koestler. What are some non-fiction books that describe the Moscow Trials, fracture of the Revolution, etc? Thanks for all suggestions.
An excellent manuscript about Revolutionary Russia is Theodore H. von Laue's Why Lenin? Why Stalin?: A Reappraisal of the Russian Revolution, 1900-1930.
The best book I've read on this subject is Generations of Winter by Vasily Aksyonov. It is yet another historical fiction book that depicts a family that seems to be present in one way or another at every key event in early 20th century Russian history. However, keeping in mind that that premise is somewhat necessary in historical fiction, it is pretty compelling.
