Not the best. The United states fought the Ottoman Empire (technically they fought semi-autonomous provinces of the Ottoman Empire) in the Barbary wars between 1801-1815. In short, the Ottoman Empire allowed it's provinces in North Africa to pursue piracy and slavery, which impacted American merchant ships. Many European nations ransomed their crews and ships, and thus avoided war against the pirates and the North African states where they operated from (which was de jure under Ottoman rule), and the United States also did this under Presidents Washington and Adams. But, then in 1801, President Thomas Jefferson had enough of the piracy and declared war on the pirates and the Ottoman provinces where they operated from. The United States finally won the war, and stopped piracy in the Mediterranean sea.

The Barbary wars is also referenced in the Marines' Hymn, where they sing about the "shores of Tripoli), which was one of the states where the pirates operated from, where the U.S. Marines fought and won during the Barbary wars.
