I'm learning for the first time about the Age of Enlightenment (from the Wikipedia page: The Enlightenment was marked by increasing empiricism, scientific rigor, and reductionism, along with increased questioning of religious orthodoxy.)
I am wondering if there are comparable movements in any other major religions, namely Islam or Judaism. If so, what are they called? When did they occur? How are their affects felt today?
Haskalah in Judaism. The movement was active from the 1770s to the 1880s in Europe. The affect of the Haskalah is felt today in various ways because Jews are well integrated and modernized (unlike their Muslim counterparts). The Haskalah influenced the development of Zionism and later the establishment of Israel.
