Books on Muslim Persia

by dimashqi

I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for books on:

Muslim conquest of Persia Subsequent Islamisation Persian influence (particularly under Abbasids), until the Safavid era starting 1500

So basically anything from 700-1500 CE

edit: Also welcoming additions concerning modern Iran, preferrably 1950s-2000, particularly focusing on impacts of the Shah and CIA coup in 50s, and the Khomenei Revolution in '79

David Morgan's Medieval Persia: 1040-1797 is excellent for that period.

Islamization: It's a bit statistical but you may find Richard Bulliett's monograph Conversion to Islam in the Medieval Period to be interesting. He discusses the rates and causes of conversion with a particular focus on Persia, as well his methods for calculating that conversion.

The conquests: In God's Path by Robert Hoyland is a general history of the conquests so the relevant bits on Persia will be of interest.

Overall history: The entire scope of Islamic Persian history is discussed in the relevant chapters of Marshall Hodgson's The Venture of Islam which is pretty fantastic.
