I've been trying to find books that give overviews, rather than focussing on specific periods. I don't mind so much if the book is focussed on a specific country (Including Iceland and Finland by the way), just as long as I get a good overall sense of how things went.
I apologise if this is the wrong way or place to ask a question like this, and thanks in advance to anybody who answers!
The Cambridge History of Scandinavia, edited by Knute Helle, is both fantastic for an overview (volume one covers prehistory to 1550, volume two is 1550-1850) and grotesquely expensive. However, you're not going to find a better overview of the history of Scandinavia than that.
