Hello, I'm writing an essay on why Athens won the Persian Wars from 490 to 466 BCE. I can find a lot on the specifics of battles and the war but not a lot of analysis on why the Greeks won. I'm thinking of writing that they won because of superior military technique (Hoplites and their weapons), a better navy that was able to cut off Persian supplies, and better military leaders. I feel like this doesn't offer a complete picture, though. Is there anything to add or change? Also, I'd love it if someone can direct me to good sources on the matter.
Persia was fighting many other enemies at the time as well as internal succession struggles. It is possible they decided it wasn't worth the manpower and resources to fight determined people on their home turf in what for them was a backwater. Think the US and Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
