I'm looking for good sources on the Swedish invasion of Poland in 1655.

Looking to learn more about this specific even in the history of the Poland, about how much was destroyed and how much was taken. Can't really find anything relevant in the Books and resource list and wanted advice on what sources to look at and which to steer clear of.

I'm not sure if it's available in English, but the Swedish historian Peter Englund has written a great book about it called "den oövervinnerlige", "the Invincible".

I assume you don't know Polish and you're looking only for books available in English (and it really narrows possibilities). In this case I would recommend you:

  • Davies, Norman God's Playground: A History of Poland, Volume I
  • Frost, Robert I. After the Deluge: Poland-Lithuania and the Second Northern War
  • Frost, Robert I. The Northern Wars, War, State and Society in Northeastern Europe
  • Oakley, Stewart P. War and Peace in the Baltic, 1560-1790 (War in Context)

As a historian I don't like The Invincible mentioned by /u/daffydook. It seems to be written in more popular than science way and might serve only as an introduction to the Deluge at best.
