How did native Americans react to the spread of diseases brought over from Europe?

by Rhamni

Were there any great efforts to save themselves? I realize they did not understand the germ theory of disease, but all I could find on google about native Americans actually doing anything to avoid disease was that many tribes decided to stay away from white traders and settlers.

In this post, I talk about the Wendat (Huron Confederacy) reaction to the influenza outbreak in 1637 and the smallpox outbreak in 1639. There's a little bonus post that talks briefly about some reactions on the Plains, too.
