So my wife and I are currently watching the television series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, 2nd Gig. We got into anime after spending three years working in Japan. And a large part of one of the arcs refers to the May 15th Incident in which those in the Japanese Military assassinated the EmperorPM in 1932. This event which to my surprise was an actual event in history helped bring a renewed surge in conservative nationalist sentiments in Japan.
Such an event would seem to have a great deal of scholarship on the event and the periphery. However there doesn't seem to be a great deal of scholarship on the event. I was hoping that you historians could help me to decent scholarship that i could acquire that directly deals with developments around the May 15th Incident and the repercussions.
The Japanese Prime Minister was assassinated, not the emperor, on May 15, 1932. It was all part of an increasing militarization, so it's generally referred to in context of Japanese militarization, not as an isolated incident.
