Cultural history of the US in the 1970's?

by ILoveDMont

Hi, first off I apologize if this isn't the place to post this - I got a suggestion from /r/suggestmeabook that the people here might be able to help me. I'm looking for a book recommendation for my mother who grew up in the 70's in Chicago, and who is looking for a book that ties together the big cultural and political events of the decade. So far the best thing I've found is this, but I'm not sure she's going to be that interested in what appears to be a history of labor. I think she'd like something with a good narrative, that tells a story about the events of the decade. Thanks in advance!

Edward Berkowitz's Something Happened: A Political and Cultural Overview of the Seventies is a good read, as is Bruce Schulman's The Seventies: The Great Shift in American Culture, Society, and Politics.
