Meet your new moderators!

by jschooltiger

Hello there! As our sub grows in size (we’re inching steadily towards half a million subscribers! gulp), we sometimes take the opportunity to add new moderators. It’s now been five months since the last time we added new mods, and we’re proud to announce that as of today we have a new class of literal Hitlers subreddit moderators.

Without further ado, let us introduce you to:

  • /u/sowser, who is a flaired expert on Slavery in the U.S. and British Caribbean

  • /u/shlin28, who is a flaired expert on Late Antiquity and the Early Byzantine Empire

  • /u/elm11, who is a flaired expert on the Russo-Finnish Winter War 1939-1940 and Red Army in WWII

Sowser, Shlin, Elm, welcome to the mod-team! May your banhammers ever be shiny!

blue_dice

It's been said before but it bears repeating. Thanks to all the moderators for your tireless hard work in keeping this the best of all the subreddits. That you can do so despite this place now having close to half a million subscribers is a testament to the quality of the moderation.

Elm11

Hiya, everyone! Thanks very much for taking me onto the mod team!

Ever since I was a child I dreamed of the chance to abuse power help teach people. /r/Askhistorians is an amazing, incredible place, and and I couldn't hope for a better place to puff up my ego share my knowledge and learn from others. I'm truly honoured to be part of the Cabal mod team, and look forward to imaginary Internet power being more involved in this incredible community!

Felinomancy

Wait, I thought we're supposed to be locked inside the Sistine Chapel to elect new mods.

Polybios

Note that starting with these additions, we will only accept new mods with usernames of length 7 or less.

This is not due to any character limitations, but because our attention span is too short to read longer names when deciding who to add. (We already have to read all those long posts in the sub, we can't also read long usernames.)

Oh, and welcome to the club /u/sowser, /u/shlin28 and /u/elm11 :)

shlin28

Literally Hitler? Amateurs, I will be literally Phocas.

lngwstksgk

I shall do the traditional honours: suckers.

sowser

Hello, one and all! Suffice to say I'm enormously flattered and grateful to have been given the opportunity to take on a position of greater responsibility by relentlessly silencing the voices of the internet masses with the remove button in this fantastic community, and I'm very excited to get to work!

For future reference, I will accept bribes in the form of contributions towards plane tickets to Caribbean islands. For research purposes, of course. Ahem.

Parraz

I think this is the first time Ive noticed just how many moderators this sub has. It looks, from a casual inspection of a few random subs, to have an exceptional low ratio of mods to subscribers. It certainly helps explain how the sub is so well moderated.

Bsnargleplexis

I'm afraid if you don't provide a source for these new mods, they will be deleted.

Welcome aboard!

WARitter

And now for the blessing of the Banhammers!

vertexoflife

RUN, YOU FOOLS

Cake451

Speech! Speech!

TheDoctor-

From a consistant lurker, congrats. It's been said many times, but thank you to all /r/AskHistorians mods for all the work that you do. This is the one place where I know there's no bullshit comments. I know that when I see an answer here, it's one that is as correct as we can get. Thank you.

ThucydidesWasAwesome

Congrats on the promotions!

This is what I imagine being a mod for this sub is like.

pjdonovan

I look forward to being told I'm not allowed to post here by these three new guys!

Mispelling

Welcome folks! Get your "remove" button ready.

fightsfortheuser

Thanks mod team for everything you all do to keep this one of my favorite and most interesting subs I read.

New mods - can I ask a question? What's your favorite historical fact about your area of focus?

/u/elm111 /u/sowser /u/shlin28

Phasechange

You poor bastards.

Good luck and thank you for joining the hardest working moderator team on reddit.

Eternally65

Welcome, new mods /u/sowser, /u/shlin28 and /u/elm11!

Just so I don't screw up, do you prefer a formal bow, or should I do a complete prostration?

<smile>
aguamineral

I've already seen 6 jokes in this thread without crediting the author. I'm worried.

EnderBoy

Are there any flaired experts on expert flairs? I'd love to learn more about the yellow stars.

DoctorDanDrangus

/u/elm11 - if I can ask a quick question: how many troops/material (ie: how significant) was the Finnish contribution to the siege of Leningrad and did they help the German war effort in any way beyond that?

Cataphractoi

Congratulations guys!

SJHalflingRanger

I look forward to brutal oppression by our newest overlords. Hail history (if properly sourced).

CitizenTed

Great news! The wider the breadth of mod knowledge, the better.

Like most subscribers, I do not have a history degree of any kind. Instead, like (hopefully) most subscribers, I have an armchair interest in history and read a LOT of history books.

Some books are better than others, and new research can confirm, deny, or obfuscate already published works, so it's nice to have mods (and posters!) who can elucidate details and re-frame discussions.

I also appreciate the mods' merciless attitude towards off-the-cuff crap posts. I don't even want to see them. Without this merciless approach to chaff, the sub would become a history buff version of YouTube comments and NOBODY wants that.

So: welcome, new mods! Please mod away with your best possible moddiness.

sillypersonx

Congratulations! Fabulous choices, all of you.

(Just getting my sucking up in early)

pumpkincat

All hail the mighty overlords

lazespud2

Wilkommen literal Hilters! And thank you for agreeing to help keep it honest and sane around here.

notlurkinganymoar

Welcome everyone! I am confident in your ability to keep this sub up to the gold standard of which we have all become accustomed.

MockDeath

Glad to see you guys on board! You guys who mod this sub do a fantastic job.

LordCrusader

/u/sowser , new expert of slavery in /r/AskHistorians. ;)

IngeniousGentleman

This is probably the most educational subreddits for me. One of my favorites.

tjen

Congratulations, looking forward to seeing all those deleted comments in the future! It wouldn't work for every sub, but it makes this one amazing at being what it is, and it is one of the subs on all of reddit that I enjoy reading the most!

Just thought I'd take the chance to say that now that there's a thread my comment might survive :D

_andemonium_

I'm curious about the mod's academic background. Are you grad students, academics, committed enthusiasts or some combo of the above? Any other interesting background info?

octopodesrex

Welcome! I do not envy you your task o.o

crusticles

Welcome welcome welcome!

comfortablytrev

Welcome all. This is a terrific sub

The_YoungWolf

If I say "The mods did nothing wrong," will I get banned for Nazi apologia?

SimonPeterSays

I didn't even know there was a Russo-Finish Winter War. Wow. /u/Elm11 was there any lasting impact that conflict had on WWII for the Russian Army? Sorry if this is not the appropriate time to ask.

Fapplet

Salam.

VACWS

Greetings and Salutations!!!

Tychobro

You have the best moderating staff in all of reddit on here. Keep up the great work.

Ambarenya

Raise high the coronation shield, and standing upon it, /u/shlin28, the Empire's exalted.

hivemind_disruptor

without further ado, this is the part III of Hardcore History [insert title]

1Exodia1

Will you start enforcing the rule about No political agendas or moralising when it comes to people with more left wing friendly views? Because I haven't seen consistent or good enforcement of that rule when people push left wing friendly agendas but also write an answer that is a bit eloquent and add a source. And I reported those posts. (one of the most notorious example was someone who in his posting history in his directly previous post was arguing about people who disagree with him being bigots about Islam or something like that which put him in one of the sides of culturar warriors on the issue and he made a post here quoting one quote from Islam and adding his interpretation to push the message that we can't compare religions.)

Also, would a meta thread asking about this issue of bias, especially left wing bias and trying to discuss it, be against the rules?

capitalLOWERCASE

I remember when this sub had the old mods.

bestofreddit_me

we’re inching steadily towards half a million subscribers!

How much of those are just inactive throwaways and how much of those are accounts banned as part of your censorship?

What's the point? A self-congratulatory circlejerk?

White_Heart

Perfect time to say goodbye.
