Like so many Americans, I can trace my roots back out of this country in under 5 generations, and for 4 of my Great-Grandparents, directly through Ellis Island. A comment in a thread in r/badhistory popped up talking about mass immigration in Europe, and it had me wondering if there was ever a French/British/German/Italian/etc. equivalent to Ellis Island.
If you don't mind, I'd like to piggyback on this with a related question:
Was there an equivalent place for Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Australia and other "new world" countries with large immigrant populations?
