Fleet Admiral Nimitz famously provided written testimony at the trial of Admiral Doenitz in Nuremberg, basically saying "guys, you know that thing you just convicted him of? We did the same thing" (In this case, unrestricted submarine warfare). This arguably saved Dornitz from execution.
