During the period of Manifest Destiny were there any ideas or movements to try and incorporate British Canada into the United States?

Since Manifest Destiny was the belief that the US was the best country in the world and that God wanted the Americans to take control of the whole continent spreading democracy, was there any movement among Americans to try and incorporate Britain's North American holdings into the US?

I had always understood the War of 1812 as Britain's attempt to re-take America, and America's attempt to take Canada. (neither succeeded, obviously)
