Abu Hamza al-Masri (an Islamic militant arrested in 2004), lost both of his hands while fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan during the 1980s. He replaced one of his hands with a hook. He was also blinded in one eye during this time as well, and sometimes wore an eye patch.
OP, I'd suggest x-posting to a medical sub like /r/AskScience. I say because I went to school with a guy with a hook hand (actually double hook that worked like tweezers), so would say that this was "a thing" even in fairly recent prosthetics.
