Why is WW2 much more glorified than WW1?

I've been watching The Great War series on youtube and comparing WW1 to WW2, it is much more gruesome and intriguing than WW1. So why is there so much spotlight in the media towards WW2 than WW1?

I would suggest a number of things, not in any particular order:

  • It is more recent
  • It lasted longer
  • The mode of war is closer to what we recognise today and therefore its easier to relate
  • More countries were involved
  • More casualties

But I would suggest the biggest factor is that with Hitler and the Nazi's / Nazi ideology there is a very clear central villain to place at the centre of a good vs evil narrative which makes it much easier to build stories, novels, films around, whereas with WW1 its a little less clear cut and the reasons for war were much messier and less well defined.
