Certain members of the NAACP did support Eugenic theory and programs. However, as I mentioned in this post there were different forms of Eugenic theory. Positive, which supported better breeding such as selective marriage and negative which supported things like sterilization of the undesirable or unfit.

Those members of the NAACP that supported Eugenic theory were Positive Eugenicists. W.E.B. DuBois, famed Civil Rights Activist and one of the NAACP's founders came out of as a believer in Eugenics in 1905. He stated that, “only fit blacks should procreate to eradicate the race’s heritage of moral iniquity.” believing that only members of the "Talented Tenth," the black Upper Class, should breed more often continue the positive qualities of the black community. DuBois is also notable for giving support to White Eugenicist Margaret Sanger, Birth Control proponent and spiritual founder of Planned Parenthood, when she opened her first clinic in Harlem.

The "Better Baby" contests were commonly held features of local Eugenic societies, black and white, akin to that of animal breeding or hybrid crop growers. The goal being to showcase the healthiest and most beautiful of the Human "stock" In the early years of the NAACP, they held their own "Better Baby" contests to raise money for their Civil Rights campaigns. The real difference between Black and White Eugenicists in the United States lay their Eugenic beliefs that the environment was more responsible for someone's personality rather than pure genetics.
