Was it common in the 1930s for boys to wear jewellery?

by holytriplem

I asked this question a few months ago but I didn't have a good quality photo at the time. I do now though.

So my grandmother owns a children's encyclopedia from the 1930s called the Wonderland of Knowledge, and in one article there is a picture of a young white boy wearing a ring. The article is about dental care as opposed to something about 'exotic peoples of foreign climes', and the article has absolutely nothing to do with jewellery whatsoever.

Would this have been common at the time?

Where? I assume you mean one of the English speaking countries but their culture varies.
