Alternatively, is there evidence of growth in smoking that correlates to growth in civil aviation at the time?
I've been curious if being able to smoke in aircraft was a factor in the growth of smoking.

As an aside, there is not a world-wide ban on inflight smoking. Some airlines outside of the United States still allow smoking on domestic flights or did until very recently.
