I was listening to In Our Time, the episode titled "The Phoenicians", and one of the guests who specializes in the subject said that the some Phoenician cities would roll the hull of newly built ships over slaves as a form of human sacrifice. I've looked this up and am having difficulty finding any sources about it.
Anyone know if this is true and/or any sources on it?
No ancient source mentions this practice, as far as I know! Human sacrifice among the Phoenicians seems to have been limited to ritual infanticide, which is actually attested more in the colonies of the Western Mediterranean than in the Phoenician mainland.
