I'm wondering whether the virus' existence and the incredible amount of coverage it got in the 90s was in part responsible for the accelerating acceptance of homosexuality in the 90s (and continuing), or if the stigma associated with it actually hampered it? Or no effect?
I realise this might not be the easiest thing in the world to answer as I can't imagine what sources you'd draw on, but curious to see the evidence in either direction!

However I will add that IIRC during my own research one of the last known cases of AIDS in the USA was in 1996 so if your question was solely focused on the effects after the crisis as opposed to whilst it was still ongoing then it might be best to wait until New Years when the sub's "20 year rule" allows questions asking about events in '96.
But perhaps that fact about the last known American AIDS case occurring in 1996 could be a figment of my imagination :)
