Before major Russian contact, to what extent did the reindeer and maritime Chukchi see themselves as being part of one larger Chukchi ethnic group?

Was there intermarriage between reindeer and sea Chukchi? When did a Chukchi ethnic identity develop?

According to the book on Chukchi by В. Г. Богораз published in 1934 they have both terms for herders and fishers and a general term for both groups as opposed to outsiders. Chukchi dervies from their term for the reindeer-chukchi. Sea chukchi are called Alkalyn. Luoravetlan was the term for Chukchis as opposed to Yukaghirs, Evenks, Yakuts or Russians. If this precedes Russian presence (and attempts to subjugate the Chukchi while allied to other groups) I don't know, sadly.
