For example, do we know if people in the 1890s would ever wax nostalgic about trends from "the 60s" (meaning 1860s), etc? Or is such rapid and distinct change between decades a more recent phenomenon due to advanced manufacturing and things like that?
I was just thinking about how it will be "the 20s" again soon in a few years here, and how that might get a little confusing in future decades when people might say "the 20s" to refer to either the 2020s or the Gatsby era of flappers and Babe Ruth. Was just wondering if this dilemma occurs every century or not.
