I was looking at photos of it last night and it's exceptionally detailed and in great condition given how its nearly 2000 years old. Was it in one piece when it was discovered? Or was it reconstructed?
The Prima Porta statue was discovered in 1863 at Livia's villa near Prima Porta. Livia's villa is in excellent condition, with its frescoes being particularly famous, and it's little surprise that the statue would be in good condition. There were also almost certainly multiple copies of the statue floating around in antiquity, as it's thought to be a copy from a bronze original
