From my understanding, after the Wall Street Crash and the elections in Weimar Germany after that, the Nazi and Communist party both became much more popular with the Nazi party being the most popular out of them all. But they viewed the KPD as a big rival, so what gave them the edge in terms of popularity, and what specifically was the KPD missing that the Nazi party had?
Hello, this is my first time attempting to answer so give me some feedbacks if I’m lacking anything that you seek.
So basically they were better in the polls because of a few things, their own strengths and the weakness of the KDP. So here are the reasons why they won, take your pick on which was the reason you think that led to them winning
• They were good at using propaganda
They also had Dr Goebbels, who spun the propaganda in ways that really appealed to the people, through usage of parades (as show of strength) and also through carefully crafted posters of Hitler as saviour of Germany. They also used a “catch-all” tactic, where they used the problems of each classes and make attractive solutions that only the NSDAP can deliver such as solving the farmer’s low agriculture products problems.
• They had a strong leadership
• Red Terror
The Communist purge in Russia led to many fearing something similar could happen in Germany. The purge killed off everything that came out of Russia’s attempts to modernise; a growing middle class and a peasantry that was evolving. This made everyday Germans fearful that they could lose everything they have right now. Remember that the Communist main appeal is to the working classes. Anyway, the NSDAP promised to wipe out the reds and prevent anything like the Russian Revolution from happening in Germany, basically playing with the fears of people.
Stab in the back myth
The Treaty of Versailles condemned Germany to loser status. There were some who felt that Germany had been stabbed in the back by the Weimar politicians and also Jews (portrayed as spies in the army that led to Germany’s downfall). The fact that it was the politicians who signed the treaty, caused Germany’s misery and are still in power, serve to prove the myth to be true. When the Wall Street Crash occurred, Hitler blamed all of this on the Treaty of Versailles, how the victors humiliated the Fatherland and berating the Jews for their betrayal. This again played on the fears and desperation of people, making them believe his rhetoric, eventually turning rhetoric into true facts.
They also intimidated the opposition and fought the communists in street battles to show their might.
Hope this helps.
One was that the Wiemar Republic hated communists more than they hated Hitler.
Before hand there was communist uprising called the spartacist uprising
Europe had a strong anti-communist view.
In fact Hindenburg made Hitler Chancellor as he thought Hitler would remove the communist. Hindenburg thought he could control Hitler as he had more people. in the cabinet
The Nazis had the SS and SA, which showed order in a time of chaos.
