Heya folks. So I've been looking to get a good book on the crusades for a while now, and found you guys recommended this 2011 book by Thomas Asbridge. Was on the verge of buying it, but I found the author has a second book that came out a year later.
Any opinions on which is more comprehensive? Has anyone read both?
It looks like it's different editions of the same book. The first book you linked is the US paperback edition, the second book is the UK ebook edition. There's also an UK paperback edition and a US ebook edition. It is not unusual for there to be a slight delay between editions in the US and the UK.
I quite liked the book btw, though I'm no expert on the crusades so I can't say with any confidence how accurate it is (it's pretty good though, as I've understood from others).
I'm not sure on the European edition, but the first one is very comprehensive and a good read. I had a professor assign it as text for a class that covered the entire length of the crusades.
As other people have pointed out, they're the same book. For some reason Asbridge's book was published under slightly different titles in the UK and US. Either version is fine to read. Asbridge is my current favorite introductory book on the Crusades.
