It seems, looking through the various churches and monasteries of Constantinople, that many of them were re-dedicated as mosques and renamed. The Fenari Isa Mosque was formerly the Lips Monastery, the Hirami Ahmet Pasha Mosque was formerly St John the Forerunner by-the-dome, the Zeyrek Mosque was once the Pantokrator Monastery, etc etc.

But the Turkish name for Hagia Sophia seems to be just that in Turkish, even though it was, too, converted into a mosque? What was the reason for that?
