I love Regency-era Britain but - ashamed to admit it - most of my information comes from romance novels. Just wondering if society was as strict as they are written about in novels: the importance of reputation, not having pre-marital sex, status, and how the season/ton operated (men approached women for a dance, courted them after, were they always chaperoned? hard to believe no hanky panky occurred). Basically, any information would help. Thank you!!
The "ton"?
