There's a good essay detailing the history of Kenmore Square that you can read here. After looking it over, I can't find any mention of your relative. The first thing named Kenmore in the area was Kenmore Street, and then there was the Kenmore Hotel (now part of BU) and while the square was officially named Governor Square, by 1926 it was informally referred to as Kenmore Square. During this time, the railway system was under construction and a station was constructed in the square, and was called Kenmore. According to the essay I linked above, it was a business group that brought the request to have the square officially named Kenmore (from "Governor"), because it was already the local vernacular for the area, which was signed by the mayor in December 1932.
I don't know where the name for Kenmore Street came from, however. It's possible that the name is indeed related to your relative.
