Homosexuality and trans individuals in the early Soviet Union

by commiespaceinvader

Coming off of a question from another thread, I wonder what the status and the social view of homosexuals and trans-gender individuals was in the Soviet Union prior to the Stalinist backlash in 1933?

Much better, to the extent historians refer to this period as "the early Soviet sexual revolution"... but I'm afraid I don't remember the details. Which isn't very helpful.

I do however, remember the names of the books I read about it in, so if you want to read more, I can recommend them. "Homosexual Desire in Revolutionary Russia: The Regulation of Sexual and Gender Dissent" and "Bolshevik Sexual Forensics: Diagnosing Sexual Disorder in Clinic and Courtroom, 1917-1939", both by Dan Healey.
