I fully appreciate why it takes time for an acceptable answer to get posted by a flared user. And I think what would really be helpful to us non-historian users is if there was a way to see if a thread had a qualified answer while browsing. Maybe have OPs mark their thread as answered like other request based subs.

This has been asked before, and it's generally been regarded as unworkable because of the nature of how history works. There is rarely "an" answer to a question; any one question can have several good answers; and marking a question as "answered" would discourage further discussion. There also the related issue that flaired users aren't the only ones who can give good answers, and that it's quite possible for two flaired users (or users of any type) give different answers due to differences in historical methodology.
