The information I've gathered so far seems really fragmented, and I'd like to finally understand which factions were allied with each other, and what they're ideologies were. Specifically : -Maronite Christians -Israel -Shiite Islamists (Hezbollah) -Palestinians -Sunni Islamists -Syria (Ba'ath Party) -Muslim Lebanese Nationalists -Marxists -Pan-Arabists -Non-Socialist Secular Factions
The answer to this is very complicated, and changed often. It was a long time ago, but I remember thinking that Robert Fisk's Pity The Nation did a very good job of untangling the complexities of the Lebanese Civil War.
