My Grandfather was an SS officer, I wish to know more about him?

by Mark-P

Hello everyone.

I was adopted at a young age and know very little about my family. I do know that my Grandfather was an SS officer, but that is sadly it.

Is there a place I can go to look him up in maybe a data base of SS officers? I have his name.

It would be really nice to have some kind of connection with my biological family.

ok, thanks.

Hello there! As your question is related to looking for identification/information regarding military personnel, our Guide on Military Identification may be of use to you. It provides a number of different resources, including how to request service records from a number of national agencies around the world, as well as graphical aids to assist in deciphering rank, unit, and other forms of badges or insignia. While the users here may still be able to lend you more assistance, hopefully this will provide a good place to start!

You may have received some bad advice. I say may... If one was an SS officer it does not mean per se one was in the Waffen-SS, which was the fighting arm. The SS had all kinds of departments, police, medical, general, et cetera.
