I would think some people that study the 1st Infantry Division (the Big Red One) might have more info.
Was there a lot of action on this particular beach? It's really hard to tell because it looks like they are not under fire and just wading through the water. There doesn't even appear to be any fortifications in the sand, just no man's land. (Probably more terrifying since there would be no cover)
Edit: Are those bodies where the water meets the sand?
