It depends on how you define "modern". In the classic Ancient / Medieval / Modern scheme, the modern era begins about three centuries before rapid industrialisation. But it's often subdivided with the period to c.1800 being labelled "early modern", so the later modern period (sometimes just the "industrial age" would begin around the time of modern industriaisation. It's certainly the start of a new kind of modernity.
