A common theme among Medieval Fantasy games, such as Skyrim, and movies, such as The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings, is to give different groups of people a form of Scale mail(Hold Guards in Skyrim, Rohirrim in LoTR). Both of these are based on Germanic peoples, but I was unable to find any information regarding its use by Germanic Warriors. What groups would have used Scale Mail? Also, did any Germanic People use it?
The ancient Persians used it:
The Persians were equipped in this way: they wore on their heads loose caps called tiaras, and on their bodies embroidered sleeved tunics, with scales of iron like the scales of fish in appearance, and trousers on their legs; for shields they had wicker tower shields, with quivers hanging beneath them; they carried short spears, long bows, and reed arrows, and daggers that hung from the girdle by the right thigh.

Remains of these scale cuirasses have been found at Persepolis.
I believe the Romans also used scale armour, but other contributors will know more about that.
