At which point WWII was recognized as "World War II"?

The name was used very early, even from the first fortnight - see the brief discussion here. WW1 had already been called "the World War" (though Britons long preferred "the Great War"), so numbering each conflict was straightforward (as Time had done as early as June 1939). Roosevelt brought "Second World War" into official usage in speeches in March and May 1941.
