[Meta] What are the books you would recommend on the British Empire, the Navy (and perhaps Cromwell's Commonwealth)?

'Empire: How Britain made the modern world' by Niall Ferguson is a good place to start.

As is Jeremy Paxman's 'Empire: What ruling the world did to the British'.

For a book on the British Royal Navy, I can suggest Daniel Owen Spence's 'A history of the royal navy: British empire'.
