This is somewhat false. France never intended to invade the United States after putting down the Haitian rebellion, however Napoleon was looking at establishing a French Empire in the New World (possibly attacking Spain or the US, most likely Spain since they held the Louisiana Territory) with Haiti as a jump off point.

Napoleon had large views of what he wanted to do with his new France. With France at peace, he hoped to expand it but couldn't tame Haiti. With Haiti free, Napoleon abandoned his North American vision due to the impossible and was able to trade lands in Italy to Spain for Louisiana on the condition that France wouldn't sell for five years. Napoleon would then turn it around and sell it to the United States.

It isn't so much that Haiti saved America but rather Haiti was able to do their own Revolution against the French. Napoleon wanted Haiti more than just a jumping off point but because of the sugar plantations that were VERY valuable to France. While Napoleon was possibly very racist (often mistreating general Dumas, and other small actions), this oppression of Haiti would start during the Revolution because the sugar would have been very important to French economics.
