Well, Lake Erie is about 570 feet above sea level, and was the site of a naval battle between nine ships of the young US Navy and a small British squadron in 1813.

At about 2,500 feet is Lake Tanganyika, a large rift valley lake in central Africa. In the First World War, Germany operated a few vessels on the lake uncontested after having sunk British and Belgian vessels on the lake. The British shipped in a couple of smallish boats to attack the Germans and take control of the lake. It was pretty weird.

I suppose at some point a few canoers on Lake Titicaca (~12,000 feet) maybe have attacked each other with oars. Not sure.
