They didn't. In reality a group of french hussars and the fleet agreed to keep a status quo and then, five days later, the dutch swore to accept french orders (but the ships stayed under dutch authority). This happened because two days before the arrival of the french troopers admiral Reyntjes received orders from van Kinsbergen, the dutch naval commander-in-chief, not to attack or resist the French forces.
